Maldives, a slice of Paradise

Wow, The Maldives really is a slice of Paradise..

In June, I had the absolute pleasure of being hosted on a familiarisation trip to the stunning Intercontinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort, courtesy of Lusso Travel..and it was everything and more I could have dreamed of. Here's why you should consider it as your next holiday destination..

Closer than you think
The direct BA flight took only 9 hrs to reach Male from Heathrow. Overnight flight there and a day flight back at sensible timings. You can also go via the Middle East or Sri Lanka as a two centre option. Once through Arrivals, we were met by a charming rep who checked our luggage onto the sea plane service with Manta Air and whisked us away to the brand new terminal for sea plane transfers, where we could freshen up in the Intercontinental lounge. We boarded the sea plane within 90 mins and were on our way across the vast Turquoise ocean looking over the many islands and sand banks that make this destination so unique.

First Impressions last
From the pre-arrival questionnaire, to the smiling line of faces from the resort team, this hotel knows how to welcome their guests and make them feel special. Personal touches like your initials embroidered on a pillow on the bed, the welcome and departure gifts in the room, the suite concierge and app you download, everything is in place to ensure all you need to worry about is which sun lounger to lie on and which of the incredibly tasty dishes to choose first for lunch.

Designed with comfort and privacy in mind
The resort has a contemporary feel with bohemian touches that keep with Maldivian authenticity. Large comfy swing chairs, lounging bags and sleek teak furniture all add to the relaxed vibe yet it still exudes elegance and chicness in natural tones with pops of colour. There are sumptuous villas with private pools to suit couples and families from one to three bedrooms, on the beach, over water or on the lagoon. The children's club is the best designed I have ever seen - set like a pirate ship with a huge space indoor and out.

Guest experiences
Each guest is provided with a bicycle to get around the resort or you can hop in a buggy - it's also very walkable. Stunning spaces to relax and chill including the adults only Retreat. Plenty of choice of eateries and a focus on wellness with the spa, yoga and PT available. Complimentary half board includes extra benefits like happy hour and afternoon tea.

As well as the expected water sports like paddle boarding and kayaking, one of the highlights of this location is the opportunity to dive or snorkel with Manta Rays. The Manta Trust has a base here to study these incredible mammals and work on conservation through research, education and collaboration. Protection is taken very seriously and it was humbling to learn more about this precious species.

I could go on and on, needless to say I was super impressed by the team and the product and it was a seamless service from every aspect. This makes for a perfect week away with loved ones and little ones, to an all year round resort, if you are seeking sunshine, mindfulness and a brand you can trust for excellence.
